Subject: They Meet
Dated: 07.21.09

Has it been over a year since I last wrote an original song? Yes, yes it has. Songfight! Live was this past weekend, which made me nostalgic for my hardcore songfighting days. So I checked on the site and found myself writing lyrics for the current title. Having written lyrics, I decided I should probably set them to music. And so I did. And then I submitted it. You can listen to it right here, but you could also head over to Songfight and vote for me and other entries that you enjoy listen to the other entries. Here are the lyrics:

They meet in a cafe
but don’t have much to say.
His hand is on her thigh
but she just wants to cry.

And when the tears escape
his lips are at her nape.
She feels his breath expel,
the shortness is the tell.

He pulls from their embrace
and leaves behind a trace
of his familiar smell,
it lingers for a spell.

She knows they can’t go back,
they’ve fallen off the track.
What kills about the wreck
is both of them were circumspect.

And maybe it could have been saved
if they hadn’t gone so out of phase:
inverted signals that canceled out.
Empty arms and an open mouth.
